Used in porridge, baking or even creamy sauces, they can be terrific substitutes for dairy milk, if that's the way you want to hang. Four Leftys is Novo’s house blend, formulated from fully washed coffees of the Americas. But after experimenting with dairy alternatives while writing a vegan cookbook recently, I can report that most of them are actually not half bad (if you turn a blind eye to their dishwater colour) when used in cooking. Political leanings aside, this is actually a tribute to the large percentage of left-handed (and footed) souls walking the floors of Novo. If you instinctively turn up your nose at the very notion of seed juice, or think nuts are best eaten salted with a glass of something cold to drink, I hear you. Even quinoa is rising out of the salad bowl and into the cup. Previously niche "milks" such as flax and hemp, both rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, are nowavailable on supermarket shelves. Now the UK's first pure almond milk manufacturer, The Pressery has just opened for business, selling its unsweetened blend of Spanish almonds, salt and filtered water in markets and coffee shops (it froths well, like soy, and doesn't have a noticeable almond taste). Owing to health concerns, soy milk, once the leader of the pack, has lost ground to almond. Tamara Arbib, whose company Rebel Kitchen recently launched a range of coconut milk-based "mylk" drinks for kids, says: "Dairy alternatives are no longer just something for people with allergies or intolerances, but a positive, conscious lifestyle choice." She adds that plant-based milks are not only challenging dairy but grabbing market share from soft drinks and smoothies amid growing concerns about that other contentious white stuff: sugar.Ĭompetition within the mock milk market, worth £52m in sales in the year to February, is fierce. "Dairy makes a difference as a consistent consumer favourite with well-known nutritional benefits and as an essential part of a healthy diet."īut a glance at the supermarket chiller cabinet makes it clear that skimmed or full-fat are not the only options to cover your breakfast cereal with. "Some 98% of households in the UK have milk and dairy products in their fridge and dairy consumption is steady," a Dairy Council spokeswoman says. The organisation has also taken its message to social media. The Dairy Council's website is frothing over with information that contradicts common claims that cow's milk causes everything from aggravated acne and asthma to increased mucus production. They have been around for centuries, but we're now slurping them at a rate of more than 42m litres a year.Īs more people turn to milk alternatives for reasons including lactose intolerance, allergies, PKU, veganism and environmental concerns, dairy farmers are grappling with how to make the white stuff remain attractive to their customers. Instead, these "drinks" or "dairy alternative beverages" are made from ground nuts, seeds or legumes, mixed with water and flavourings. Most of these milk pretenders aren't, of course, actually milk, a fact acknowledged by the EU, which prohibits use of the the word to describe stuff that doesn't hail from an udder. Once she discovered Unito, it was easy to syncing Airtable and Asana. Gail began her search with another popular workflow automation solution, but quickly found it wasn’t up to the task. We needed a friendlier view of what was going on.” Gail Schaar, Project Manager, Corpay Solution “I didn’t want to have different sources of truth I didn’t want to make changes in a bunch of places whenever one calendar was updated. Gail’s day-to-day work involved overseeing projects, ensuring teams properly entered requests into Asana, assigning tasks to the right people, and then feeding that data through to Airtable.Īfter exploring options within each tool and the manual work required to keep them up-to-date, Gail recognized the need for an automated solution. This responsibility came following a series of rapid acquisitions by parent company, Fleetcor. Using the example above, here's how to send the ‘Headline’ and ‘Subheadline’ information to ContentCal.ĬontentCal works brilliantly as a tool to create content, manage team approvals, auto-publish posts, and analyze results. This is where ContentCal comes in.Īfter creating a high-level plan in Airtable, it's more efficient to use purpose built content creation tools for the delivery tasks. Airtable, is mainly there to give a visual picture of activity status. However, it is best to avoid creating actual content within Airtable - there are better tools for that. This is ideal for tracking the status of activity and having a top-level overview of where everything is at. This screenshot shows a content calendar, with the content marketing tasks to be completed. However, once you come to creating the copy and images for each task, Airtable needs an additional tool to complement the process. Airtable is good for managing a list of tasks, but has limitations when with displaying copy and images for posts you create.Ĭreating a structure for your content marketing calendarĪirtable is fine if you’re looking to create a content calendar of content marketing ‘tasks’, each with a status.Airtable doesn’t natively integrate with the platforms content gets published on, so it's neccessary to manually move content from Airtable to social media channels for publishing platforms. The challengeĪirtable represents a significant advantage over a typical Excel and Google Spreadsheet in terms of customization and team collaboration, but doesn't go as far as providing an end-to-end experience. This combination of features allows users to create a more interactive spreadsheet and flexibility of Airtable gives it a wider, multi-purpose usibilty, making it a good content marketing tool.Ĭontent marketing can be a challenge to organize, with the involvement of many stakeholders and multiple steps from copywriting and reviewing, to approving workflows and ("publishing social media content").Īirtable has the ability to to add some structure to the content marketing process and plans, and Airtable works well as a content calendar. Airtable is like a super-charged spreadsheet, offering users the familiar experience of a spreadsheet, combined with collaborative features akin to project management tools. In 1926 or early 1927, Johnson established an unregistered marriage with Willie B. Occasionally, Johnson would play on the same street as Blind Lemon Jefferson, but the extent of the two songsters' involvement with each other is unknown. Adam Booker, a blind minister interviewed by the blues historian Samuel Charters in the 1950s, recalled that while visiting his father in Hearne, Johnson would perform religious songs on street corners with a tin cup tied to the neck of his Stella guitar to collect money. At some point he met another blind musician, Madkin Butler, who had a powerful singing and preaching style that influenced Johnson's own vocal delivery and repertoire. įew other details are known about the singer's childhood. Other theories have also been developed to explain Johnson's visual impairment, including that he wore the wrong spectacles, that he viewed the solar eclipse of Augthat was partially observable over Texas or a combination of the two conjectures. In her recollection, Willie's father had violently confronted Willie's stepmother about her infidelity, and during the argument she splashed Willie with a caustic solution of lye water, permanently blinding him. It is uncertain how he lost his sight, but it is generally agreed by most biographers of Johnson that he was blinded by his stepmother when he was seven years old, a claim that was first made by Johnson's purported widow Angeline Johnson. Johnson was not born blind, though he was impaired with the disability at an early age. When Johnson was five years old, his father gave him his first instrument-a cigar box guitar. There, the Johnson family attended church-most likely the Marlin Missionary Baptist Church-every Sunday, a practice which had a lasting impact on Johnson and fueled his desire to be ordained as a Baptist minister. His family, which according to the blues historian Steven Calt included at least one younger brother named Carl, moved to the agriculturally rich community of Marlin, where Johnson spent most of his childhood. Johnson was born on January 25, 1897, in Pendleton, Texas, a small town near Temple, Texas, to sharecropper George Johnson (also identified as Willie Johnson Sr.) and his wife, Mary Fields, who died in 1901. Other recordings by Johnson include " Jesus Make Up My Dying Bed", " It's Nobody's Fault but Mine", and " John the Revelator".īiography Early life and career As a result, Johnson is credited as one of the most influential practitioners of the blues, and his slide guitar playing, particularly on his hymn " Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground", is highly acclaimed. Johnson's work has become more accessible through compilation albums such as American Epic: The Best of Blind Willie Johnson and the Charters compilations. Along with Davis, he has since been considered the dominant player of " holy blues" music, which conveyed religious themes in a blues idiom and often with the genre's style of guitar accompaniment. His life was poorly documented, but over time, music historians such as Samuel Charters have uncovered more about Johnson and his five recording sessions.Ī revival of interest in Johnson's music began in the 1960s, following his inclusion on Harry Smith's Anthology of American Folk Music, and by the efforts of the blues guitarist Reverend Gary Davis. Even though Johnson's records sold well, as a street performer and preacher, he had little wealth in his lifetime. His landmark recordings completed between 19-thirty songs in total-display a combination of powerful " chest voice" singing, slide guitar skills, and originality that has influenced generations of musicians. Blind Willie Johnson (Janu– September 18, 1945) was an American gospel blues singer, guitarist and evangelist. Pursey was enormously critical of the album, calling it "a pile of shit" in a 1989 Flipside interview, noting: The original incarnation of Sham 69 disbanded in 1980, following the release of the band's fourth album, The Game. Their concerts were plagued by violence, and the band ceased live performances after a 1979 concert at the Rainbow Theatre in Finsbury Park was broken up by National Front-supporting white power skinheads fighting and rushing the stage. The band attracted a large skinhead following ( left wing, right wing and non-political). Sham 69 did not have the art school background of many English punk bands of the time, and brought in football chant backup vocals and an implicit political populism. She goes to contact the crew of The Lector, but finds that the ship is infested with Xenomorphs. She leaves Miriam to tend to Dachande while she herself organizes defensive preparations for the colony. When he recognizes Dachande's body and panics, Machiko realizes there must be more of the hunters on Ryushi. Meanwhile, the traumatized Bobby Sheldon arrives at the colony with a story of monsters slaughtering his family. The following morning, Machiko has the colony's pilot fly her out in search of the missing Revna in the colony's copter - they discover the destroyed Yautja ship as well as the still-unconscious Dachande, whom they return to the colony. After fighting him off, the beaten Scott is helped back to the ship by Tom, the vessel's second pilot, whereupon the two are attacked by Xenomorphs born from the impregnated rhynth. Her thoughts are interrupted by Scott, one of The Lector's pilots, who drunkenly propositions her. These feelings are compounded when she discovers a report Kesar has written about the dead creatures Roth found, and realizes that the doctor must have gone looking for them. Miriam Revna, the colony's human doctor, she becomes concerned. However, when she learns of Revna's disappearance from his wife, Dr. A large party is organized in celebration of the harvest, and even the usually uptight Machiko joins in the festivities. The settlement's new administrator, Machiko Noguchi, is preparing for the much-anticipated harvest, when the rhynth reared by the ranchers over the last few years will be collected by The Lector and taken off-world for slaughter. Unknown to the band of Yautja, the human rhynth-farming colony Prosperity Wells has been established on Rysuhi since they last visited. Arriving in orbit around Ryushi, the crew use Eggs from a captive Xenomorph Queen held prisoner in the ship's hold to "seed" the planet with Xenomorph prey. The Yautja ship, the Ne'dtessi, is also headed for Ryushi, where its commander Dachande intends to lead several inexperienced un-Blooded hunters in their first Hunt.
